In a very short time,
Nani’s approval ratings and admirers have skyrocketed, thanks largely to his acting versatility, good looks and a universal appeal. Whether it is the ease with which he steps into any kind of acting shoes or the subtle spontaneity with which he delivers his comic timing, Nani definitely is anyone’s winning bet to go the full distance. On the eve of his birthday, we bring to you 7 awesome movies that could be remade for the present generation of cinema-goers, to benefit from Nani’s classic comic timing.
Aha Na Pellanta
It is not too hard to imagine Nani growing into Rajendra Prasad’s role perfectly. The modern day Aha Na Pellanta, would definitely be a rom-com that will rely on Nani’s suave look and exceptionally immaculate comic timing. Like RP, he can toggle with ease between multiple shades. He can be the romantic lover-boy and at the same time, the smart and calculative miser trying to get the better of his would-be-father-in-law. To top it all, he will bring his own supremely charming subtlety that appeals so much to the fans of intelligent humor.
Chitram Bhala re Vichitram
One of the cult comedies of its generation, Chitram Bhalare Vichitram highlighted the crème de la crème of Naresh’s performances. If remade for the present generation, it is hard to imagine anyone other than Nani. Versatility and range of the character apart, Chitram Bhalare Vichitram needs the hero to stand out in a massive gathering of comedians, Brahmanandam included. Fans would also love to see how Nani would pull off the part where Naresh dresses up as a lady.
Chantabbai
One of the less hyped movies of Mega Star, Chantabbai showed an entire different shade of
Chiranjeevi. As a comical detective, with a sad past and a hilarious practice, Chantabbai stands out as one of those rare movies where the protagonist literally steals the show with his comedy. If remade in the present day, it needs Nani’s effortless humour which streams out spontaneously. Nani can do justice to Chantabbai also because of the way he can pull off emotional scenes, considering there are some highly involved monologues in Chantabbai.
Yamaleela
A runaway that grew with every day, eventually joining a pantheon of top Telugu comedies, Yamaleela stood out, because of its fresh brand of off-beat comedy. Although Ali played the hero, if remade, we would love to see Nani playing the lead. Whether it is romancing the love of his life or playing the ideal son, the all-smashing Bruce Lee or the comedy opposite
Tanikella Bharani’s Thota Ramadu, Nani is probably one of the few faces in present Tollywood, who could look convincing in every shade of that role. More importantly, he will bring a charming glam appeal to the role.
Dongalu Baboi Dongalu
Krishna’s comedy stands out because of his weird language and quirky one-liners. The tapori-style Krishna pulled off as part of the dual role in the movie is on the same lines as Nani’s well acclaimed role in Paisa. Dongalu Baboi Dongalu was lost in the mazes of time, sadly, and it is well-worth a watch if you can find it.
April 1 Vidudala
A character that could go to any lengths for the sake of his love, RP delivers some hilarious scenes in the movie in the way no one ever did. He is never short of smart ideas but ends up paying for his schemes from time to time in a movie that received warm appreciation from a lot of his fans. At a time when loud, slapstick comedy is being overdone in commercial entertainers, a remake of this Vamsy movie, with Nani at the helm can be a real dose of clean and healthy comedy for the fans. Most importantly Nani seems the actor who, in movies like Pilla Zamindar and Ala Modalaindi, can pull off the urban rom-com star role and the rustic mass-appeal role with equal ease and élan.
Jamba Lakidi Pamba
One of the rare dark humour examples in Telugu cinema, EVV and Naresh create magic in a very relevant theme in an unusual screenplay. With great present day production values and the acting spectrum of Nani, the story can make waves if remade. The brash arrogance of Naresh, without overstepping the line anywhere combined with a general annoyance at an out-for-blood heroine can only find justice in Nani’s acting. A special mention for the way Naresh deals with an almost apocalyptic ending – quite a juicy proposition to watch Nani doing it.
